“I’m just so busy with my books, Daddy and Momma!” (Little Mermaid #2, age 3)
Ah…sweet music to this Reading Specialist’s ears! 🙂
Four years ago, we bought a Leap Frog Tag Reader pen and two Tag books on Little Mermaid #1’s 4th birthday. Dude, are we getting our money’s worth outta that sucker! We are considering buying another, since LM #2 constantly tears it from Little Mermaid #1’s hands each time she dares to enjoy it. Granted, LM#1 is more into reading chapter books than story books these days, but the fact she still enjoys using the Tag Reader is cool to me.
As an elementary school teacher and Reading Specialist, I highly recommend the Leap Frog Tag Reading System — the Tag Reader pen and Tag books — for your Emergent and Intermediate Level readers at home. With the vocabulary development, literacy and comprehension skills, and interactive games offered in each book, you’re getting some serious “bang for your toy buck” with this educational toy!
Check out this short video of 3-year-old LM #2 showing us how she uses a Leap Frog Tag Reading System pen and Tag Reader book. She loves reading, due in large part to the Tag Reader! 🙂
Here’s a link to Amazon.com with an excellent description and photos – http://www.amazon.com/LeapFrog-TAG-Reading-System-Green/dp/B003JQV9LG.
You’ll find a wide selection of Leap Frog Tag Reading System products at any Target, Wal Mart, or online retailer. There’s a wide variety of texts from non-fiction topics to popular Disney and Pixar themes, so something for every appetite! At $8-15 apiece, the Tag books make perfect gifts that are both unique and affordable.
Two minor details of note:
1. To read a Tag story, you must first go online to access Leap Frog Connect –www.leapfrog.com/connect. Once there, you’ll simply connect the Tag Reader pen to your computer via a USB cable, and follow the on-screen directions to download the story content for reading the Tag books. It’s a snap!
2. As with all Leap Frog products, there are proprietary issues. Tag Reader pen will only “read” and interact with Tag Reading System books.
Grab a Leap Frog Tag Reader pen and a few books. I guarantee you won’t regret it! And be sure to come back and tell us what you think.
